We woke up and had some breakfast - there were cereals and bagels to have washed down with a cup of tea. After we had eaten we took the tents down and packed the van up - again the back seat was left free so it looked as if we were sorted for the rest of the trek!
We headed to a town called Kingman where we would encounter our first Wal-Mart with the rest of the people from Trek. As it was our turn on the rota to cook we were given the task of buying the ingredients. We were going to cook a curry but it didn’t seem as if Wal-Mart knew what a curry was so we ended up getting stuff to make a chilli with tacos.
We were reminded that a few people were Veggies so we made sure that we bought loads of kidney beans etc so that we could make a batch without meat. We also stocked up on beers! On the way in Rob got on a motorised shopping trolley and was going round the store on that - it was really funny! The other members of the group were also split into teams, one team got breakfast, one team bought lunch and the other team got to relax because they were on van cleaning duty.
We bumped into him halfway round and Paul swapped over with him - Paul realised that it went loads slower than if he was just walking. We bought a few other things from there - we both got a pillow as we just used coats/t-shirts last night. Paul also bought a football and a drinks container that looked like an American Football.
After we had loaded up the trailer of the van with all of the food we set off to a town called Seligman. Chris explained that towns like this and Kingsman only really existed because of Route 66 that they were both on. As we pulled off towards Seligman Chris played the song ' Get Your Kicks on Route 66' in there they mentioned both Seligman and Kingsman. We arrived in Seligman and had lunch - there was not much there apart from one small café and Paul went ant got us both a nice cup of tea.
After lunch we set off towards the Grand Canyon, when we got there we set up the tents and Chris said that we should go over to the Canyon to watch the sunset. We parked up then Chris got us to all get in a line and close our eyes - we then all walked to the edge of the Canyon with our eyes closed. When we opened them we had the most amazing view - pictures do not do it any justice! We had a walk down to the visitors centre and on the way we spotted some wild deers in the bushes. Then we all sat on the ridge and watched the sunset and took lots of pictures.
When we got back to camp we started to cook the chilli. It proved to be a real pain because people all wanted different things - some wanted veggie, some wanted it without any spices in and some wanted the normal stuff! We managed to do this although Paul decided that if he used the same spoon to stir all of them no-one would die so he did! There was loads of food so some people got to have seconds.
After dinner we stayed up late and drank and played CD's - we had a camp fire set up which we sat around. A few people went to bed quite early but we carried on drinking. We attracted a few strange people because we were quite lively - a couple were real idiots but Paul soon chased them away. Paul, Chris and Courtney stayed up until about 4.
